What is overlanding?

According to Wikipedia:

Overlanding is the self-reliant overland travel to remote destinations where the journey is the principal goal. Typically, but not exclusively, accommodated by mechanized off-road capable transport (from bicycles to trucks) where the principal form of lodging is camping; often lasting for extended lengths of time (months to years) and spanning international boundaries. Historically, “‘overlanding’” is an Australian term to denote the driving of livestock over very long distances to open up new country or to take livestock to market far from grazing grounds.

Our use of the word does not reflect livestock.

Is Soviet Truck trustworthy?

Though I clearly see the potential for bias in my own answering this question, I still answer with a resounding “Yes!” We’ll take good care of our passengers.

Your trip seems rather expensive, is it worth it?

Actually, other overland trips of similar length and time are usually substantially more expensive. The cost of your trip is $3999.00, for ten weeks. That price also includes visas and the plethora of activities we are going to do during the trip.

Soviet Truck is also working with agencies that specialize in acquiring visas for people, so we are able to make the process as simple as possible for you. If you’ve ever dealt with embassies before, then you know we will be saving you a LOT of headaches.

Why should I go with Soviet Truck, and not a more well-known overlanding company?

Several reasons:

  • We have scoured the internet and have yet to find anyone offering the same trip that we do—through Russia, the Northern Caucasus, the Stans, and Mongolia.
  • The travellers make the decisions. It’s your trip.
  • Our price compares very favourably.
  • Because of our connections throughout the world, we will offer you numerous unique, cultural experiences with local people that you would not get with other overlanding companies.
  • We at Soviet Truck are a really cool, laid-back, adventurous group of guys. You’ll have a unique time with fellow adventure-seekers. We all speak fluent English and Russian, and are doing this because we enjoy it.
  • There will be 10 travellers on each truck with us. Other companies carry double that, with fewer staff, resulting in a less personal experience, and making it difficult to keep a low profile.
  • We understand that our offer will only likely appeal to a certain kind of traveler. You know who you are. Expect to find others like yourself on the bus with you.

What can I expect for the day-to-day on the Soviet Truck journey?

Our plans will be sort of like camping, sort of like exploring. Sometimes we will be guests at the homes of locals, sometimes we will camp out in the wilderness or the city. Sometimes we will go hunting, or rafting, or climbing, or a world of other activities. Some days may be monotonous, some may be exciting. Others still may be stressful and exhausting, while we expect many days to be relaxing and even awe-inspiring. But the trip, for certain, will probably be unlike anything else you have ever done.

How do I get in touch with other passengers attending the Soviet Truck trip?

We’ve set up a forum on our site that our enthusiasts and future-passengers can get to know each other. You can register easily using your Facebook or Gmail account. So DO IT! Get to know each other!

Will Soviet Truck be awesome?

Absolutely it will.
